Home / Packaged Substations and Container Conversions
Packaged Substations are preferred by clients who require a substation that is not fixed in one position and in many cases located in remote areas that are difficult to get to. They are also used on machines such as Stacker-Reclaimers, conveyor systems, and floating machines, to name a few. The purpose of a containerised substation varies from one client to another. But the generally design stays the same. It is comprised of a 6m or 12m, new or used, shipping container that has been stripped and gutted of its marine components. It is then fitted with a Vastrap floor, insulated or fire retardant walls, small power, lighting and various other safety features and auxiliary equipment that is specified by the client. With all the modifications being done in house by KSEA’s Sheetmetal section, the customer has free rein on the design specification of the container. Containerised substations normally house a front access only MCC or a front and rear access MCC that is accessible from the outside of the container or Packaged Substation through termination boxes.
E-House’s are custom built substations, but have the same general application and equipment as the Packaged Substation. The advantage of a custom built E-house is that you are not restricted by the length, height or width of a standard shipping container. The design, specification and overall appearance of the E-house is entirely client specific.
